You spend the evening with friends, and instead of playing games, going dancing, or making music, you go shopping at the new Target that has just opened in the space where the Adam's Mark hotel used to be! We had a blast exploring the store, seeing what they had, and comparing prices. It looks like it will become a place that I will visit often for house necessities and sundries. I still can't get over the idea of shopping in a store that is built over the remains of the longtime Philcon site...

Sigh... "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot..."

It's so true!

Lord, is THAT what they did with it? I just assumed it sold to another hotel chain. Wow. I'll have to drive by there sometime.

I've been watching them slowly demolish the Adam's Mark for over a year. It was cathartic to see the wrecking ball smash through the side of the building (I imagined it destroying the evil elevators).

I liked the Adam's Mark;-( I have fond memories of going to the first Philcon they ever had there (which was just after it was built, I believe); and I was trying to remember the floorplan there, which I remember as unusual... too late now;-)...

I've enjoyed many Philcons there, too, but I never liked the layout of the hotel itself (and its inadequate number of elevators was legendary). Things were way too spread out and yet there were always traffic jams at the major access points because of the strange layout.

Is that icon from Miyazaki's "Spirited Away"? It looks very familiar...

It's a terrific film for capturing sense of wonder. I showed it to my nephews and they were enthralled.
