I've had Chester for a month and decided it was time to take him to my Vet and get him checked out. He is 6 years old and weighs in at 14.7 pounds and all of his vitals indicate good health. We put him in the system so that he will get reminders for his future shots. He had had a number of medical issues over the summer, which were mostly resolved by the time I had adopted him. The most serious was a history of kidney infection for which he had been treated longterm with high doses of Baytril. Apparently, this treatment carries a risk of blindness and deafness, but Chester luckily appears to have escaped those side effects. He had also been on prednisolone for a strained forelimb and that now checks out ok. He had been treated with antibiotics for a cough, and that is also ok (I've never heard him cough in the time that I've had him). I had managed to obtain his medical history from his former Vet's and I'm very glad that I did. So he had some blood drawn to check his current kidney function and I am going to collect a urine sample for analysis. If everything checks out, then we are good to go. He had had a history of peeing outside of the litterbox, but has not done so here (despite meeting Sawyer). I described how the two cats have been getting along, what with waking me up by fighting over me in the bedroom. He was concerned that they have not become friends yet so he gave me the Feliway pheremone plug in (which [profile] goddess_of_art had reported great success with) to help reduce the stress between my two cats and to reduce the risk of either of them resorting to peeing outside of the litterbox in response. Chester did very well at the Vet's and was pretty subdued the whole time (in contrast to his former Vet notes which indicated that handlers use caution with him). He was very glad to return home and has been purring up a storm.

Obviously, this cat is much happier with you than with his past owners. He does not even sound like the same kitty. He has found a good daddy :)

From reading the Vet records, it appears that his former owners did try to care for him. However, it is noted that they had had a baby and perhaps that caused a change in the household that stressed the cat. All I know for sure is that he was abandoned at his Vet's and they transferred him to Kitty Cottage. I don't know whether the former owners moved and didn't take him or just couldn't deal or what. I, however, am delighted to have him! And he's a very beautiful cat, too.

Feliway is OF THE GODS. It was the only reason we could keep Thursday Next for the length of time it took to find her another home -- well, or we would have had to isolate her 23 hours a day, which would have been horribly cruel. Here's hoping it works as well for you!

After 6 hours it looks like both of my cats came from the boneless cat farm... :-)
