Sinuses of Doom

Last night, [profile] puzzld1 and I had a lovely dinner at Pod, the mod japanese fusion restaurant in West Philly. It was wonderful!!! We had a tuna karpachio, a cooked salmon roll with fruit and an interesting salad with roe, wild mushroom dumplings, and cooked sea bass with snow peas and an amazing mashed sweet potato. Everything was top notch. For dessert, we had the fondue sampling platter which was three tiers of yummy treats to dip into a raspberry, chocolate, or caramel sauce. It was decadent and heavenly!!!

Unfortunately, later in the evening the weather changed and my sinuses gave me major grief. I was up until 4:00am until finally enough meds allowed me to sleep. I'm working from home today as I don't want to aggravate things with rat dander from the lab.

Being home, I got to watch the first episode of Project Runway Season 3 which is my favorite reality show, just in front of So You Think You Can Dance? and Survivor. While I don't really care about fashion, I love the true talent and creativity that the designers must bring to the plate and I enjoy hearing them discuss their creative process. This season is filled with a number of talented characters and it's too early for me to pick a favorite. I also really like that Heidi Klum is not just a pretty face here, but a major force behind the show. Tim Gunn is amazing and spot on with his critiques. The judges are sometimes off the wall, but in general they do know what they are doing and Michael Kors and Nina Garcia have become a welcome part of my overall enjoyment of the show.

Oooohhhh, Pod! I went there when I was in Philly in--what was it? 03? I think...

Until that trip I hadn't realized how many amazingly good restaurants there are in Philadelphia, and Pod was certainly VERY impressive! Thank you for brining back that lovely memory.

You're welcome. Next time you come down for a Philcon, be sure to return!

I saw Road to the Runway on Tuesday night, but taped last night's opener to watch this weekend or something. That Malan (sp?) seems particularly slimy/creepy.

Pod sounds fun. Were there any Japanese elements to the fondue dessert? Which sauce was your favorite? I'm a chocoholic for sure, but I've had many more great chocolate sauces than caramel, so when I get the latter that I really like, I'm very happy.

Malan is able to put a load of condescension into a simple "Hello," much like Stephen, the sommelier, from Top Chef. He also does not look directly into the camera when he speaks, which makes him look even more shifty.

The dessert was over a dozen types of fruit and petit fors that were great for dipping. Surprisingly, I liked the raspberry sauce the best. Although the chocolate went great with the carmelized banana slices...yum!

Alikander and I are also Project Runway fans, for similar reasons. No other show gives you a better understanding of the design process and its pitfalls. For anyone who's ever had to endure a tough crit of their work at art school, that show is IT!

Exactly! I did think that the Barbie boy should have won over the "This is my first dress" arrogant prick, but it's harder to judge when one can't see the construction up close.

Since Alikander and I have cancelled our cable TV, we will have to rely on you for updates!

Runway Alert!!!

Project Runway is supposed to air on NBC this week in order to try to reach a larger audience!!! Check local listings!

Again, another trash tv show we have in common! (Sorry, I'm really behind on LJ.) I love Project Runway, too. I think Tim Gunn is amazing in the way he can predict problems and suggest spot-on corrections. Make it work!

I think I'm in love with Nina Garcia, too.
