No Day But Today

OMIGOD!!! It was amazing!!!
puzzld1,
jenn_girl, and
grendelgongon and I saw Rent when it premiered here on Wed night. Actually, the theatre we went to was sold out for the show, but with the help of
phillyvixen we were able to make on-line reservations at another theatre and using my
logisticslad powers, we made it there in time for the show! Spoilers to follow...
For those who don't know, Rent is the story of a year in the life of a group of starving artists living in NYC dealing with poverty, AIDS, and relationships and is loosely based on La Boheme. The play won a Pulitzer and a Tony and launched careers for many of the cast. Most of the original cast returned for the movie and that greatly eased the transition from stage to screen. It was so well done! I'd never seen the play, but had no trouble following the story and was totally drawn in to the world that these characters lived in.
One of the scenes that really got to me was when Roger, the frustrated musician with AIDS, finally reaches out to people by joining Collins, Angel, and Mark at the LifeSupport meeting. I could not stop crying as it totally reminded me of when my dear friend Jack first reached out to me when he decided to live with AIDS rather than simply to die from it. Oh dear, I'm tearing up now just typing this... God, that song they all sang, "No Day But Today" gets it just right. It's so unfair that Jack died before seeing this. He would have loved it, too. I'm gonna stop for awhile and collect myself...
