Cable woes

I've been having cable difficulties over the past week and Customer Service had recommended that I swap out the cable box with a new one. I did that yesterday and things appeared to be fine until tonight. I turned on the Emmys on CBS and got picture but no sound. There is no sound on the first 15 digital cable channels, but everything is fine on all the others. I checked with the neighbors and they have no problems. I plugged in a tv upstairs, but without cable, I have no reception at all. Urban Cableworks customer service is not available Sun eve. This makes no sense! What in the world could produce this kind of problem???

I had a similar problem happen with 3 network stations going but everything else being fine. Problem was in the outside line

Okay, I've discovered that if I turn up the volume all the way, I can hear the sound at a very low level. I'm doubly annoyed since I had cancelled Mon's service call from last week, since swapping out the cable box had appeared to fix things...
