My good friends D&E came by yesterday morning in order to work on my disaster of a back yard. We rented a rototiller and they used it to completely turn over the dirt. Then they smoothed it out with some new topsoil and fertilizer and we seeded with new grass. It is my fond hope that I will soon have a flat yard of grass, rather than a bumpy yard of weeds (that was too hilly to mow). Plus, the neighbors confirmed that they are going to have the huge overhanging pine tree removed soon, and that will make a huge difference to the health of the yard. So a few minutes after we went in, a flock of birds swooped down and started pecking. They left after half an hour and didn't return. We couldn't tell whether they were after the grass seed or all of the bugs that had been turned up by the tilling. Does anyone know whether birds eat grass seed? E. thought that if that was what they were after, then the fertizer would make them sick. Although, when I looked outside this morning, I saw some more.

After the yard was done, I got pizza for lunch and then L. came over to hang out with us for the rest of the day. We watched some more of the BBC Doctor Who series and it's way better than I thought it could ever be. We all really enjoyed it. Since I had sworn off Dr. Who after a relationship with a someone who had been a huge fan had ended, I was very glad to get back into it in the company of good friends. I showed them an episode of Eerie, Indiana (which I have on DVD) and then we got Chinese food for dinner. D&E had to get back home to walk their dog, so Lee and watched Mirage of Blaze OVA, which turned out to be pretty interesting. It's about reincarnated Japanese sorcerors trying to lay restless spirits to rest, while the bad guys want to use them for their own purposes. Plus, two of the former lovers are currently in male bodies, and they deal with that in interesting ways. Apparently, it was also a TV series, which we may check out. Then we watched the premiere of Justice League Unlimited, which has been consistently good in terms of characterization and plot. The new season does not disappoint. It was a good day.

Cable woes

I've been having cable difficulties over the past week and Customer Service had recommended that I swap out the cable box with a new one. I did that yesterday and things appeared to be fine until tonight. I turned on the Emmys on CBS and got picture but no sound. There is no sound on the first 15 digital cable channels, but everything is fine on all the others. I checked with the neighbors and they have no problems. I plugged in a tv upstairs, but without cable, I have no reception at all. Urban Cableworks customer service is not available Sun eve. This makes no sense! What in the world could produce this kind of problem???
