So yesterday was the exam that we had to remake after the original was accidentally sent out to all the students. The mean of the new exam was in the mid 80's which was great and we've now posted the original exam on our website as a study aid for the final. So it all worked out okay. Now onto making the next exam. Can't wait until June 3rd when the course is over!

I found the Spamalot CD and the new U2 CD at Best Buy! I'm enjoying each of them (for very different reasons). I would never have gone to NYC for the Spamalot trip if [profile] puzzld1 hadn't taken me there last fall to see Hairspray and Wicked. Thanks, Hon!

Had a half hour meeting that turned into a two hour discussion regarding whether we would transition a student from the Masters to the Ph.D. program in Neuroscience. I had developed a set of guidelines as to how to approach this potentially very subjective decision more objectively. This was the first time they were put to use and it took some hammering out. (I chewed out. the program director for initiating an out-of-control procedural discussion over email with the committee and the student about what he was supposed to present to the committee in five hours time. I felt that this should have been hashed out by the committee beforehand and communicated to the student wiht more than five hours notice. In fact it had, but he felt the need to change it at the last minute... sigh). In the end, the faculty committee and the student agreed that he wasn't quite ready for the transition. I feel like we did good work and were fair to the student, but it did take a while to get there.

I submitted 6 abstracts to the Society for Neuroscience meeting which will be in DC this November. I might have had 2 more (which would have tied my record of 8 set last year), but after serious consideration, I didn't feel that the data was quite there. It's never fun to be in the position of having to retract half of what you said in the abstract when people are standing at your poster, so it was better this way. Of course, the fact that I have 6 is still a pretty big deal since most folks only have one, but it's a reflection of the degree of collaborative work that I do. Oh yes, one of my students won the poster competition at the local Philly Neuroscience meeting recently - so I know I've got good people and good stuff!
