Those darn students!

We finally got the med students' test rewritten and everthing is set for Monday's exam. I gave a lecture today that the students had been told would not be covered on monday's exam. Less than 15% of the class came to lecture. Now lectures are videotaped and available by streaming video download, so I am sure that they will watch the lecture, eventually. However, I was pretty pissed. So I used my Course Director perogative and shared with the few who attended some specific hints about what to know for the exam. I felt that those few who chose to attend a scheduled lecture should have value added for doing what they should.

Never, never, never tell students that it won't be covered on an exam.

Good way to deal with those who missed the lecture. I had a professor announce that he was going to do that. "The final lecture is optional; I'll be covering the exam." I don't think any of us were foolish enough to miss that one.
