The new season of Heroes premiered tonight...

Overall, I was disappointed. It was much faster paced than the previous season, which was good, but it seemed to be at the expense of good characterization. Almost none of the characters behaved in ways that made sense, given what we've seen of their histories and personalities, especially Mohinder, Nathan, and Hiro. There seemed to be a number of inconsistencies in how people's powers worked. We discovered that Sylar does not actually eat the brains of his victims :-( Some of the new characters could become interesting, particularly the Speedster and the African Painter. There was an overly pretentious literary reference. And there was a Darth Vader style revelation at the end, which made things feel even more soap opera and comic booky. All in all, it felt like a rough start. I hope it shapes up or it could fall into some of the same traps as Lost

I agree... I spent a lot of the show going... "wait... WHAT?" I was particularly upset at the Mohinder twist ~meh~. And what was up with all the beating us over the head with the overt christian references? Having said all that... I was so disappointed by the last season that the prospect of rapid character development and lots of trying to guess where the story is going (instead being bored to death) is kinda nice. Plus African painter boy is HOT!!! Over all, I'm reserving judgement and hoping that there is a point to all the inconsistencies and biblical references other than some lame attempt at being "deep"

BTW, Boots used "Soap Opera" to discribe it as well.

I did like Sylar's comment to Claire when she asked if he was going to eat her brain, though.

The pretentious literary reference really upset me because I am a huge Yeats fangirl and I hate seeing that poem used for a cheap effect.

I want to like the African Painter, but they need to be careful about not falling into the "exotic people are more naturally spiritual than the majority" trap--and we may have cracked wise about him being a Magical Negro, too.

And! The bit after Mohinder and Maya got it on where bits of skin were coming off his back? I was all THAT IS WHAT YOU GET FOR SLEEPING WITH HER. (I don't like her character, although she was definitely less annoying this time around so far.)
