Watch Fox News at 10 Tonight!

I went to Kitty Cottage to adopt my new kitty, Chester, today and was interviewed for a spot on tonight's Fox News at 10!!! They were doing a spot on how Kitty Cottage may have to relocate due to road construction and wanted footage of someone adopting a cat to show the good work they do. I was happy to oblige! Chester was a good sport about the whole thing, although he was a bit spooked by the lights and so wouldn't let me hold him for the interview. But he's now home and exploring his new environment. I have him all set up in the middle bedroom upstairs. Sawyer is aware of him and seems nonplussed. I am going to keep them separated for awhile, so that they can adapt to each other. Welcome home, Chester!!!

Thanks! So far, whenever I've gone into the room to visit with Chester, Sawyer has started calling for me from outside the door. How did you manage to introduce your lovely cats to each other?

Pretty much the way you are doing it - allowing them to sniff each other under the door for a few days - a week if I could manage it. It's always tough in the beginning, even after that "smell adjustment" period. You can still expect hissing and stuff. I would recommend getting this stuff called Feliway - it emits a feline pheromone that seems to chill them out. It plugs into the wall like those glade plug ins. It's very expensive, but effective - about $25 for one. You can get them PetSmart, PetCo and those kinds of places. We bought two when we first moved - one for upstairs and one for downstairs - to help keep everyone chilled out during the adjustment period. I do believe it helped a lot!

Thanks for the tip - I think I'll keep it in reserve in case it comes to that. Hissing, I can deal with - I'm worried about biting, blood, or serious injury. Although they both seem pretty mellow, so it could go fine.

It's hard to predict how cats are going to react to eachother. When I first got Bella, Booboola (RIP) was VERY unhappy and things were really awful for awhile. I wish I'd known about Feliway back then. Good luck with your kitties! They do seem to sort things out after a bit.
