More Roofing
May. 18th, 2006 07:58 amThe Roofers are back again today to continue the job. Yesterday, one of them put his foot through the bad wood under the roof and broke a hole in the ceiling of my upstairs library. I'm waiting to hear what they plan to do about this. The other fun surprise was the discovery of not one, but two blocked up chimneys within the many roofing layers, that are not associated with the heating vent. Removal of these will allow the rubber roof to seal much more effectively. This, plus replacing all the bad wood, has increased the estimate by 50%. Fortunately, I have been able to refinance my home equity line of credit in order to handle all this. It's good to have a new roof, but it's not nearly as much fun as spending the money on a sports car or a fun trip. Help, I've become a true home owner!
Edited to add: The roofers say that they will be able to take care of it. But because I have to teach today, I will have to leave them with access to the inside of the house. This makes me uncomfortable, but they do have an excellent reputation, so I will trust them...
