Today I worked on the bathroom (in my skivvies, since I'm washable) with the goal of painting over the way-too-cheerful-sky-blue-with-white-sponge-cloud ceiling. Since everything always takes longer than one thinks, I didn 't quite succeed, but I'm proud of what I did. First I finished removing the blobs of drywall from the upper molding. Then I put on a my glasses and a mask, closed the door, opened a window, and sanded the ceiling. It took way longer than I expected to get it all smoothed out. Plus, it was quite the mess, with white powder everywhere! The mask was definitely a good idea. I think I'll sand the walls with someone helping me by vacuuming as I go. After a lengthy clean up, I ate lunch and took a walk to the Hardware store to buy some Kilz mold-resistant Premium Primer. I then put painter's tape on the molding and proceeded to prime the hell out the ceiling. Even with the window open, there were a lot of fumes, and it was hard to keep the cat away. I've just finished washing stray primer out of my hair, cleaning up, and I can see that as it's drying, it's going to need another coat (sigh). After that, I can paint it blissful ceiling white. Whew! This was hard work, but it will be worth it!
