Shaven, not Stirred
Jun. 23rd, 2005 06:46 pmJust got back from picking Duncan up at the Vet. The Vet removed three skin lesions. Two appeared to be associated with his former surgery scars, but the one on top of his head had abnormal tissue spread through the basement membrane underneath. In short, it looks a lot like a recurrence of the skin cancer. He had had a growth that the Vet had previously identified as a wart in that area, and warts are known to convert to skin cancer in cats. So it looks like that has happened and after seeing that, the Vet removed the other two bumps on the "better safe than sorry" theory. Duncan also displayed abnormal kidney function on one of the tests, so additional tests were done to determine whether the cancer had spread to his kidneys. We'll have the skin pathology and bloodwork back by early next week at the latest, and the pathologist will be able to compare these samples with the previous ones. So Duncan is home and has a large patch of shaved skin on his head and back. He is slowly coming out of the anesthesia and is crawling around the room, trying to determine that he is home. I am keeping him company and trying to keep it all together. He's a very spaced out kitty at the moment.
