I finally saw it. Nearly everyone I know has already seen it. Even *MY PARENTS* have seen it! So I took myself out to the movies and...

SPOILERS below

I was both pleased and disappointed. I was certainly entertained. The film was visually stunning. The action scenes were intense. The Force was definitely with ILM. Backstory for some of the characters was in the Clone Wars cartoon series and could have been better recapped in the film. I enjoyed the attempts at characterization, but I felt that the crappy dialogue and poor directing of the actors greatly interfered. The central theme - Anakin's temptation to the Dark side came off as far too simplistic (What? They don't have access to modern medicine, so the risk of Padme dying in childbirth is so believable?) The plot was filled with hard to believe coincidences and every character was able to travel great distances to be where they needed to be with split second timing. I found it quite hard to accept that the entire guard troop sent out with each Jedi was willing to turn on them at the (unverified) command of the bad guys and that the Jedi never suspected a thing! Only Yoda showed any inkling of using the Force to guard himself (They were at War and they were all not paying attention? Come on?!) In fact, Yoda came off as the strongest character in the film as he watched all that he had worked for destroyed, yet still held true to his principles. I did like him teaching Obiwan the "talking to the dead Jedi" trick, which nicely ties it in with the first trilogy. I also liked the parallels between the birth of the twins and the birth of Darth Vader. I liked the way Darth Sidious manipulated things so well, and it was interesting to see a film where the bad guys essentially win. Overall, I liked it more than I thought I would. I felt it was on par with the Return of the Jedi, my least favorite of the original trilogy. It is definitely space opera, rather than serious science fiction, and that is okay.

BTW: Where was Governor Tarkin? I saw that he was played by Wayne Pilgrim (Scorpius from Farscape), but I can't remember him in the film at all.
