WORLD AIDS DAY

We've all been affected by AIDS and today I am remembering my college friend Jack, who died 13 and a half years ago. He kept such a positive outlook on things and spent his final days in New Orleans after having earned an MFA in Set Design from Tulane. He kept living his life fully even though his health was failing him and I loved that about him. I miss him a lot.

I've also been looking after my good friend J., who lost his partner to AIDS a year ago today. He's been coping, but it has been so hard for him. I'm glad that I can be there for him and wish him more healing around this jagged hole in his life.

I've known a number of other people who have died of AIDS over the years, as well as celebrities whose work I have enjoyed. I'm thinking of them as well.

*nods* Volunteering in Hospices In the mid-90's was sad, educational, and inspiring. It is somewhat disturbing to me to think that some folks think it is "less of a problem" now, and "since there are better drugs, not as deadly". We need this day to educate and keep funding for research going.

Saw in the paper today that an average of 6000 people die every day from AIDS, creating and average of 1000 orphans every day.

Give my regards to J. for me.

So sad;-(

I didn't realize it was World Aids Day (just another first of the month to pay my bills by). Was Jack the one who roomed with Scott in Parrish one year? If so, he was bright and nice and I think everyone who knew him liked him, and am proud that he dealt with it so well. It is good you are being there for your good friend J, this must be an incredibly hard time for him.
